Raspberry Pi Sense HAT - C# library

I recently bought a Sense HAT for my Raspberry Pi.  The Sense HAT has an 8×8 RGB LED matrix, a five-button joystick and includes the following sensors:

  • Gyroscope
  • Accelerometer
  • Magnetometer
  • Temperature
  • Barometric pressure
  • Humidity

It's very convenient when doing presentations and demos because you get a bunch of sensors just by plugging the HAT onto the GPIO pins without the need for a breadboard and wires.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation provides a Python library but no C# library of course.  Well, it was just a matter of time before someone ported the code to C#.  Mattias Larsson did just that and he created a Nuget package that you can use in Universal Apps.  In this Hackster.io page, he explains how he did it.  While you look at that page, why not click on the Respect button  :-)

BTW, the Nuget package installs demo code in your solution's folder but does not add it automatically to your project.  Here's a video showing some of the demo code:

Anker LED Desk Lamp

Gadget time!

I was looking to change my desk lamp because it was too bulky and the halogen bulb was generating way too much heat.  While browsing, I found that Anker was selling an LED desk lamp.  Having previously bough a fantastic USB charger form them, I was intrigued and bought one.  After a couple of weeks of use, I must say that I would not want to get back to my old halogen lamp and all its heat.  You can set the light in 4 modes and 5 dimming levels.  In the evening, I set it to a warmer and lower level so it won't keep me awake forever.

I love this lamp, the only drawback is that it's all plastic so don't expect to be as sturdy as an all metal lamp.
